My research is centered around mechanical testing and the creation of hydrogel composites that replicate the form and function of cartilage. There are millions of people in the United States and around the world that have knee pain or joint pain due to a condition called osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is a disease where the cartilage in the joints breaks down. My work is investigating new ways to solve that problem by developing materials that can replicate the function of articular cartilage.
