Mohammad R. Islam

My research interests are fundamentally focused on the complex interplay between geometry and mechanics in biological and bio-inspired material. The motivation originates from the elegant geometries observed in biology, which are largely discrete, heterogeneous and hierarchical yet exhibit extraordinary properties that are often inaccessible to man-made materials. My current research involves mechanical characterization and computational modeling of fiber reinforced hydrogels to study failure behavior and fracture properties of these novel biological materials.
