My research is revolved around pregnancies. A common phrase used regarding pregnancy is “my water broke.” What this essentially means is that the protective layer, known as the amniotic sac, that covers the fetus is leaking or has ruptured, usually resulting in labor. I will be working with placenta that has been donated to our lab as l aim to discover a gel-like substance that can be used to patch up the woman’s amniotic sac after a leak or rupture, allowing the baby more time inside their mother as this is essential for the baby’s life.
