Eneko Axpe

Spine biomechanics and tissue engineering

Eneko is a postdoctoral research associate investigating the role of biomechanics in the development of the spine in collaboration with Dr Nowlan (Department of Bioengineering, Imperial College London, UK) and Prof Iatridis (Mount Sinai School of Medicine, NY, USA). Using atomic force microscopy and nanoindentation, he studies the mechanical properties of the developing spinal cord, vertebrae and intervertebral discs in animal models. Furthermore, Eneko is interested in biomimetic materials and he designs, fabricates and characterises novel nanocomposite hydrogels for tissue engineering and drug delivery applications.
